About the Event
In a recent report, the UN's Human Rights Office alerted us to the death of 5,479 students, 261 teachers and 95 university professors in Gaza since the start of Israel's assault, and another 145 have been detained in the West Bank. In addition, 60% of educational facilities, including 13 public libraries and all of Gaza's 12 universities have been damaged or destroyed.*
While the world watches the erasure of Gaza in real-time, we invite you to hear from a panel of educators from Gaza (primary and secondary school levels, and Higher Education) who will recount their experience with scholasticide first hand, and share their insights, views, and vision for the Educational sector in Gaza.
This event builds on last year's events centering Palestine and Palestinian voices. It will take place on Wednesday 4 December at 12:30 pm Gaza Time/ 10:30 am UK Time.
Our speakers consist of:
- Dr Omar Kh. Abuhammad, Gaza-based English Language instructor and Global Educator
- Dr Wesam Amer, CARA/IIE Fellow and visiting researcher at Cambridge and Dean of Faculty of Communication and Languages at Gaza University
- Mrs Asma Mustafa, English Language Teacher at the Ministry of Education in Gaza and Recipient of the Global Teacher Award 2020
The event will be chaired by Sabiha Allouche from the BRISMES' Outreach and Pedagogy Committee.
